LARRY A. JOHNSON, Th.D.


 Larry A. Johnson was born on July 11, 1948, in Newark, NJ, the eldest of 14 children born to the late Howard and Mary Welch.  He attended public school in Newark, NJ, and graduated from Central High School.  Larry was introduced to Christ at an early age and was baptized by Rev. Frank Huff at Mt. Herman Baptist Church, Newark, NJ.  

Larry was greatly influenced by two aunts, Elise Baker and Elizabeth Johnson, and a church mother in Deliverance Lumina Murphy, who adopted him as her spiritual son. These three women helped mold and shape Dr. Johnson in his spiritual growth and development in ministry.
 
Dr. Johnson joined the Deliverance Evangelistic Center under the leadership of Apostle Arturo Skinner in Newark, NJ where he accepted his call to the ministry.  He later served faithful in the Unified Freewill Baptist Church as choir president, prayer band leader, usher board member, Sunday School teacher, deacon, trustee, district elder, and assistant pastor. 
 
Dr. Johnson furthered his education at Essex County College, Deliverance Bible Institute, Mid- Atlantic Bible School, Metropolitan Bible School, Christian Outreach Bible Institute, and Universal Bible Institute, earning Bachelor and Master Degrees in Religious Education and a Doctoral Degree in Theology.

 

In 2004, Dr.. Johnson founded the Greater Works Thru Christ Deliverance Church and was installed Pastor by his spiritual father and covering, Bishop Wayne L. Johnson, Presiding Prelate and Chief Apostle of the Deliverance Covenant Fellowship Churches.
 
Dr. Johnson is a retired Supervisor of Newark Housing Authority where he worked for over 40 years.  He is the father of two children, Larry Johnson, Jr. (deceased), and daughter, Gale Johnson (and he has two lovely grandchildren. 
 
Dr. Johnson is currently a dean and teacher at Bible Institute.  As an Apostle-Elect, he is a meek, quiet Christian gentleman with a powerful voice of one “crying in the wilderness.”  He proclaims a message of hope, salvation, healing, and deliverance through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Dr. Johnson is a Pastor “par excellent” and a Teacher “extraordinaire”  He bears the mark and testimony of one who has seen the Lord, and his Apostleship is affirmed with signs, wonders, and miracles following.
